A place to start
Trace a transaction through the accounts
ACCT103 builds on introductory accounting with bookkeeping, reports about cash flows and profit, and taxation concepts. Start with the business event, then identify which accounts change before trying to prepare a report.
Practice prompt: an owner puts $100 of cash into a new business, which then buys $30 of supplies with cash. Which accounts change after each event?
- Treat the owner and the business as separate when describing the first event.
- Record what the business receives and what it gives up in each event.
- Check that your account changes still balance before moving to a report.
Check your reasoning
The owner’s contribution gives the business $100 more cash and $100 more owner’s equity. Buying unused supplies moves $30 from cash into a supplies asset. Afterwards the business has $70 cash and $30 supplies: total assets of $100 still match the $100 equity contribution.
An original practice prompt, not a UC assessment question. Topics checked against the UC course description.
