UC tutoring · online peer help

University tutoring for the course you are actually taking

Lighthouse Tutoring helps eligible University of Canterbury students work through questions with a peer who earned an A-, A or A+ in that same UC paper. You can request an online session when the paper has enough approved tutors and one is available. Lighthouse is independent of UC.

What kind of help can I get?

Bring the step you are stuck on, a practice question, or your own attempt. A tutor can explain a concept, talk through your reasoning and help you practise a similar problem. Tutors cannot complete assessed work for you.

Lighthouse has a public UC course directory. First-year commerce students can start with ACCT102, ACCT103, ECON104, INFO123, MGMT100 and STAT101. Tutors interested in helping UC students can read how tutoring works.

Looking for a tutor near UC in Christchurch?

Lighthouse connects UC students with tutors for their own UC papers through online video sessions and a shared whiteboard. You can join from Christchurch or elsewhere in New Zealand. In-person requests are temporarily paused, so this is currently an online option for local course help.

Start with the course directory to find your paper. If you earned an A-, A or A+ in it and want paid tutoring work, see how to become a UC tutor.

Is Lighthouse available at my university?

Right now, the tutoring service is for University of Canterbury students aged 18 or over. A course becomes available for requests when it has enough verified tutors. We are gathering interest from other universities, but submitting a request does not open an account, book tutoring or guarantee a launch date.
